Data collection

This extension does not collect any user data.

Information storage

Translation

Translations come from Chrome's built-in Translator API, which runs on your device. The text you translate is not sent to Lexbox or to any translation service. The first time you translate, Chrome may need to download its English–Russian language pack. Chrome does that download itself, and Lexbox sends nothing with it.

Access to web pages

To highlight your saved words, Lexbox runs on the pages you open (the main page, not embedded frames) and reads their text on your device to find those words. Page content is not stored, except the sentence, address and title of a page when you save a word from it, and it never leaves your device.

Highlighting uses the browser's CSS Custom Highlight API. The list of highlighted ranges belongs to the page, so a page's own scripts can see which words on that page are highlighted, and so learn which of them are in your dictionary. You can turn highlighting off on any site from the popup or in the settings, or turn it off everywhere.

When you open the popup, it reads the address of the current tab to tell you whether Lexbox can run there. The address is not stored.

Data usage

The stored data is used solely to show your dictionary, to highlight saved words on the pages you read and show their translations, and to apply your settings. This data never leaves your device. Removing a word in the dictionary deletes it; uninstalling the extension deletes all its data. Files you export (JSON backup or CSV) are saved where you choose and are not sent anywhere by Lexbox.
